Buffer Bloat

Post by pmerrill »

I have noticed that dsl reports buffer bloat test (http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest) shows that there is significant buffer bloat with 1.8.0. I had thought that OpenWRT had code to reduce buffer bloat? Is that true or does one have to install additional plugins? Are there any setting changes for Gargoyle that can improve buffer bloat? Do we know if the upcoming release of Gargoyle CC will be any better?

Openwrt's buffer bloat management is similar to gargoyles.
Until recently I would have said Gargoyle was superior, they are now probably equal. However gargolye is still my favourite ;)

You may need to make some modifications to make gargoyle behave in the way you expect.
Buffer bloat is caused by slow ACK transmission.
