Setting Up Basic Wireless Network

Post by BobStrauss »

Just downloaded Gargoyle firmware to update my TP-Link TL-WR740N router. I uploaded the firmware, enabled wireless to "AP + WDS" and now it appears to be working well.

I'm concerned I'm not on the right setting, though. There was a warning saying that my network was unsecure, and I would prefer to keep this network password secure as well. How do I do that?

Thanks for the help.

Ah, okay.

Which encryption type should I use? I'm not too worried about security, but I would like something basic.

Also, should I use AP instead of AP + WDS? I want all the speed I can get.

FWIW, my setup is like this:

Ethernet jack in the wall (Internet is supplied by my apt)
Running Ethernet cable from that jack to my router

That's it. I just need Wifi (and wired access as well) coming out of this router.

yes, unless you need WDS
Ethernet jack in the wall (Internet is supplied by my apt)
Running Ethernet cable from that jack to my router
yes, make sure you plug it into the WAN port (maybe blue) of your gargoyle router

p.s. your wifi speed most likely won't be as fast as you OEM firmware
