No IP assigned from Modem

Post by hfandy »

Hi
I just got TPLink 1043ND and loaded it sucessfully with gargoyle. I can acess the router page through wireless. The router is connected to fiber optic modem (provided by ISP) via Ethernet cable. The problem is that the router doesn't recieve IP address from the modem and hence no internet connection although the internet indicator green light is actually showing internet connection. I tried many things including power-up, changing setup to Disable WAN , synchronized power ups. but the result is the same.

Might want to talk to your ISP

I understand sometimes ISP's don't like end users changing routers?

Things I would focus on would be "WAN fixed IP" and "MAC address" but talk to your ISP first?

Thank you for your reply, I checked with ISP and they confirm it is Ok to have other routers. I also tried changing MAC address to match the old router ethernet address but no luck.

also need to look at a DNS problem

Code: Select all

C:\Users\user>ping 8.8.8.8

Pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=55
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=31ms TTL=55
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=55
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=55
vs

Code: Select all

C:\Users\user>ping google.com

Pinging google.com [202.124.127.147] with 32 bytes of d
Reply from 202.124.127.147: bytes=32 time=10ms TTL=58
Reply from 202.124.127.147: bytes=32 time=23ms TTL=58
Reply from 202.124.127.147: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=58
Reply from 202.124.127.147: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=58

Thank you for your reply, attached the status page and the connection configuration page.

For the DNS test, Pinging 8.8.8.8 is timed out while pinging google.com gave the message "Ping request couldn't find the host google.com check the name and try again"

also if you bypass your gargoyle router direct to you PC

e.g. Unplug the cable from the WAN port. Plug direct into PC

When plugged in, disable then re-enable network

Thank you for your support, the problem was the method of connection as it had to be PPPoE, once it was set every thing is working fine. :D
