Hey,
I'm not quite sure what happened, but we found that our internet suddenly became a lot slower, then when I rebooted everything, the router didn't seem to want to come online. It wouldn't issue an IP address, and both WLAN and DMZ lights remained solid. I haven't plugged it in again (I'll do it tomorrow), but does anyone know why this would happen?
I have the latest stable Gargoyle installed on a Linksys WRT54GSv4...
I logged in while this was happening, and the webUI wasn't showing any load on the CPU, and very little bandwidth was being used. When I tried to do anything else, the UI stopped responding and that's when I decided to reboot it.
Thanks,
Slow Internet, then no boot

Hmm...
4MB flash / 16MB ram
Highly unlikely you were overloading the router unless you had
a HUGE amount of torrents or downloads running.
Was it running hot? I know some of those would heat up and
run really warm, which can cause the router to act up.
Any power spikes? Is this on a protected power strip?
How old is this router? Maybe some of the electonic components,
specifically the capacitors, are deteriorating and when its been on
for a while, they just don't work like they should.
You'd have to do some 'time-tests' and see if its related to how long
its been running, or whether its related to heavy usage periods.
I've heard of the power bricks for these going bad as well.
If you have a digital multi-meter - check the voltage output of the
power supply - make sure its putting out good voltage.

Nope, uTorrent had crashed way earlier in the day. The worst I was doing was running a game.DoesItMatter wrote:Hmm...

Didn't feel too hot when I swapped it out!

Nope, it's on a protected board, and the modem is on the same board (along with the phone extension cord).

This router has actually been sitting around doing nothing for ages. It'd be running for about 6 days with no troubles. RAM usage was at about 1MB free most of the time. The worst I do with it is run torrents 24/7 and SSH into it remotely every now and again.

Might try those. I might even try putting Tomato on it and running it like the other I have now (WRT54GL) and see if it dies again, just to make sure it's not a firmware issue.

Thanks heaps for the help!
