I was looking to try a wrt54g v1.1, but flashing with gargoyle I'm unable to get any wireless to work. DDWRT VINT release works.
ifconfig does not show any interface, dmesg does no appear to show any discovery of wireless.
Suggestions? Or is this unit just too old to mess with??

Re: WRT54G v1.1
gargoyle_1.2.2-wrt54g-squashfs.bin
Have you flashed that version?
Your device should work. Once you flash, can you see the GUI?
Can you enable wireless from the Gargoyle setup page?

Re: WRT54G v1.1
Here is the logic that I followed,
Flashed the wrt54g;
login; reset password;
defaults to wireless disabled;
enable wireless;
No wlan light, no ssid showing up via site survey from my other units;
made sure as best I could that all nvram settings are default; via reset button and gui but same results each time.
flash with ddwrt, latest vintage release from eko, wlan on and ssid is seen. have enabled CB mode and have been testing it. Don't mind the ddwrt but gargoyle has a simpler interface and I have been using it on my Fon.
I'll pop the cover tonight and see what if anything is different, but firmware that is listed seems rather generic for these units...

Re: WRT54G v1.1
i had this problem too. I was told in #openwrt that broadcom dropped support for the 1.1 in their newer firmware (that kamikaze distributes). thus this unit cannot work with the wl driver. BUT... when gargoyle is distributed with a 2.6 kernel, we should be able to use b43legacy for this board.
Re: WRT54G v2
I have a Linksys WRT54G v2 which has never been used with Gargoyle before. The router had been bricked due to overclocking it too far with DD-WRT, but is now unbricked. I was using it as a wireless client. It runs Linksys stock firmware with no problem. Although it took me more tries than usual, I reflashed it to DD-WRT std (build 13064) again. I had it running for a while with WiViz scanning and it worked just fine.
Gargoyle is now installed (gargoyle_1.3.14-wrt54g-squashfs.bin), and the GUI looks good, but I am unable to get the wifi to turn on. Initially, wifi was disabled. The Gargoyle firmware accepted my command to enable "access point (ap)", but the WLAN light stays off, and inSSIDer running on another laptop does not see the Gargoyle SSID. The symptoms are exactly as described above with the v1.1 router.
I tried "disabling" and "re-enabling" the wireless, I tried reducing the transmit power from max to 15, I tried toggling "broadcast SSID" off and on again: all nogo. The Gargoyle router is chained off a Linksys WRT54GS v4 running DD-WRT std (build 13064). This router shows that the Gargoyle has acquired an IP address, but curiously did not get it's hostname of "Gargoyle". I am administering the Gargoyle on a local LAN port, and this laptop gets an IP and is able to access the Internet after I moved Gar's admin IP to 192.168.10.1.
So basically, it functions perfectly as a wired router. I really like Gargoyle's interface. Features are organized better than DD-WRT, it's got great bandwidth reporting, and appears to make configuration as a wifi client bridge, and other things, much simpler.
So is it true that the firmware just doesn't support this chipset any more? I'd be really surprised if such a popular router is already considered obsolete. Can someone recommend an older firmware version which should still work? What else can I do?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: ok, i've downgraded it to gargoyle_1.2.5-wrt54g-squashfs.bin, and the wifi seems to work now. Offhand, the only thing i've noticed different about this build is that the web gui takes *forever* to refresh after making config changes, lol.
So; bugfix report on gargoyle_1.3.14-wrt54g-squashfs.bin, re: doesn't work on v2?

See that post
I don't think it is considered a bug - more like - not supported now.
Some of the older WRT54G's are now becoming obsolete.
Even DD-WRT is only going forward supporting newer devices.
