NTP Issue

Hi first like to say this is an awesome firmware thanks a lot :D the only issue i have ran into is that i can't get the correct time it is always 38mins late i've tried different NTP servers with same results.
Any Ideas would be great :)

Maybe its the time-zone?

Try choosing another time-zone that's different, and then see
if the time syncs correctly, other than being off by the amount
of time difference from the time-zone.

If the time corrects itself, it might be that 1 time-zone has some
math error on the time calculation.

I just tried to replicate this (by setting my timezone to the one indicated), but it seems to work fine. The router's reported time and the real time there (obtained from elsewhere on the web), seem to match perfectly.

Maybe try different NTP servers?

Thanks for the help i've tried different time zones and different NTP servers but it still gives me the same result. I will try resetting the router but i don't want to do that until the end of the month because i have quotas setup.

hey mate,

I'm in New South Wales and had the same problem. I ended up using the ntp servers from a melbourne uni and it fixed the problem.

ntp0.cs.mu.OZ.AU
ntp1.cs.mu.OZ.AU

And I left the last spot blank, which the router filled in with one of the defaults. The correct time popped up straight away and has been fine ever since. Hope this helps you as well :)

Actually, I've just reset all my router settings to default to redo all my quotas and QoS rules. Have you tried also just switching onto the 'custom' option in the drop menu. Cos that's working for me now also.

Thanks heaps for the tip still didn't change it though i just hope it works when i reset the router. Do you know if there is anyway to continue quotas after resetting?

If you do a 'Reboot' from the "system' tab in the router, it shouldn't reset the records. Another trick is you can download the records before you reset just in case, and then reallocate quotas as you need.

I did a reeboot today and it didnt cause any problems with the quotas though.

The time problem: it does only update once an hour I believe, have you tried waiting until an o'clock position and then seeing with the new ntp's I gave you?

No the time still didn't change even with the new NTP servers and a reboot didn't help i think i will just have to compensate for the time difference and set all the quotas back 38 mins. Thanks heaps for the tips though

Just a final thought, have you checked all the computers on the network to make sure they are all running on the correct time and date?

Not sure if this could cause a problem, but might be worth checking out?
*edit* or perhaps the modem is running an ntp server as well?

Hi again still dealing with the same issue. to explain the situation more i have a Billon Bipac 5210s router/modem running default firmware this has DHCP disabled and a LAN IP address of 192.168.0.1

A WRT54GL (Gargoyle router) that is is setup as a Gateway and is connected to the Billion router directly via ethernet it has a static IP of 192.168.0.2 and a LAN IP of 192.168.1.1

Wireless is disabled on the WRT54GL and it is connected to an Apple AirPort Express which is set to bridge and has a static IP of 192.168.1.2

There are multiple laptops, PS3s, and phones on the network all assigned static IPs in the range of 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.24

I can get the WRT54GL to update the time if I change its configuration to Wireless Bridge/Repeater and bridge the WAN ethernet port to LAN

When I change the configuration back to Gateway as mentioned above it will keep the correct time that was obtained while in Bridge mode but if there is a power outage (which is common because we have pay as you go) the time will lag behind for the duration that the power was out.

I have tried to forward the port for NTP (but i'm not sure if i'm doing it right)

Can anyone Please help?
