Slow speeds from gargoyle

Well I have a tp link modem which loops out to a tp link router.

If I connect to the modem via wifi my speeds are much quicker then if I connect to the gargoyle router.

There is nothing else using and and quota in gargoyle. Under the qos area it seems my sync speeds are all over the shop.

I used to regularly see download speeds of 1.5mbps now I'm arround 500kbps

I think I need to set my modem and gargoyle to use PPPoE not static ip.

How do I do it my modem is a Td-w8960n no idea how it's running I just looped it into my gargoyle router.

1) Save the settings of your modem so that if anything goes wrong you can put it back the way it was

2) set it up to bridge (the manual is here http://uk.tp-link.com/Resources/documen ... _Guide.pdf) and this might also help -

3) set up your WAN connection on your gargoyle router (however it was set up on your modem i.e. if it was static ip use the same static ip)

At the moment if your modem is plugged into the wan port of your gargoyle router without being in bridge mode you're double natting which may slow down your connection.

It won't let me any ideas exetel also has a pppoa mode any ideas

Is there another setting for ISP that allows you to make those changes (mabye an "Other" option) - as long as your settings are correct it shouldn't need to say exetel in the ISP line .

Yea I found that did that put it in bridge mode (didn't have to put in any ISp details) but then when I went to gargoyle put in those details it said applying details then froze and wouldn't let me into gargoyle at all.

is your modem plugged into the internet port on your router or one of the LAN ports? Also did you power off both devices after making and saving the changes?

I didn't power cycle but yes it's plugged into the wan.

Will power cycling make a difference?
