I think there are other problems with this build

I tried to set up a standard AP router but it set its self in transparent AP mode which I didn't want. Very strange

Found the problem

Its not the first time I've fallen into this trap

I think "Ethernet port connects to:" should default to WAN

When you only have 1 ethernet port it's always tricky. Defaulting to LAN makes a lot more sense because when you first flash the firmware there is no wireless. That means you need to connect via ethernet to the LAN side (where there is no firewall) to initialize your settings.
