[Answered] DIR-505 A2, flash A1 build ok?

Post by governa »

I did a quick search and couldn’t find anyone here using a DIR-505. I see that it’s supported by OpenWRT / Gargoyle. Quick questions:

1- There are 3 revisions (A, A1 and A2) but it seems that the differences are only cosmetic (the board stays the same). I can only find a gargoyle_1.7.0-ar71xx-generic-dir-505-a1-squashfs-factory.bin to download (notice the “a1” bit). Does anyone know this is deliberate (requiring a hex edit to modify the header for example) or can I go ahead an flash my A2 unit?

2- Would you recommend flashing gargoyle_1.7.0-ar71xx-generic-dir-505-a1-squashfs-factory.bin straight from D-Link’s firmware or through the emergency restore mode?

So the DIR-505 is here and it's happily running 1.7.0.

Answering my own questions:

1- The A1 build (gargoyle_1.7.0-ar71xx-generic-dir-505-a1-squashfs-factory.bin) will work just fine with the DIR-505 A2.

2- Flashing straight from D-Link's firmware works perfectly.
