Difficulty setting up Gargoyle on a subnet router
I am trying to install Gargoyle on a spare Buffalo router, but am having trouble getting it to route the subnet traffic correctly. I have Cisco router running DD-WRT as the gateway for my home net of 192.168.1.0, its address is 192.168.1.1. I have installed the current version of Gargoyle, and given it a Static IP address of 192.168.1.3, and set it's LAN IP to 192.168.2.1, with the gateway set to 192.168.1.1. My laptop connects to the Gargoyle router with a DHCP-assigned address of 192.168.2.53. Router is in Gateway mode. I can connect to the Gargoyle web interface fine from the laptop, however no traffic appears to be routed through the Gargoyle router to the internet. I am no routing expert, so I'm sure it's something simple I've overlooked. I'm also having trouble setting up a static route into the 192.18.2.0 network, and cannot ping my laptop from a machine on the 192.168.1.0 network. Is the static route set on the Gargoyle (subnet) router, or on the outer 192.168.1.0 net router? Do I need to static routes, one for LAN and one for WAN? I noticed the same screen in DD-WRT has a LAN/WAN option, so I wasn't sure. Thanks!
Re: Difficulty setting up Gargoyle on a subnet router
Might be a silly question but is the connection from the Cisco LAN into the WAN port of the Gargoyle router? Also are both subnet masks set to 255.255.255.0 on the routers?
Re: Difficulty setting up Gargoyle on a subnet router
Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. The Cisco WAN port connects to the internet. The Gargoyle router's WAN port connects to a LAN port on the Cisco. All netmasks are 255.255.255.0.
Re: Difficulty setting up Gargoyle on a subnet router
You should be able to browse from Gargoyle to the internet in this configuration but you won't be able to access anything easily on the gargoyle network from the cisco network as the firewall will block anything in this direction that you don't forward. Im not aware tht you can turn off the gargoyle firewall completely from the GUI.
