Greetings

Hello all!

Basically I'm pretty decent with learning new things and computers in general, what I could never wrap my head around is the networking side.

currently I'm living by myself with my own internet and I have a crappy cheap ASUS - N12E modem which suits my needs fine. I'm moving back into the family home shortly and will have a second internet line coming into the house to run alongside their internet plan and I will be sharing this with my step brother as we are the only two who get annoyed with the slow speeds of multiple users downloading/streaming constantly.

I'm here now to ask the easiest way to have our bandwith split 50/50 and I'm also looking for a bit more information on the gargoyle routers for sale on this website, I'm curious as to how the setup would need to be configured.

Are the routers available for purchase here modem routers? will I just need the one product and can scrap my asus? or do I need to use the asus with the router? Please answer informatively as I am not very knowledgeable in this area but I'm very capable of understanding. Thanks!

My advice to you is to investigate how to configure your ASUS-N12E in bridge (aka modem only) mode and then connect a Gargoyle compatible router. See http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/dok ... &s[]=modem for more on this.

Gargoyle does not support PPPoE itself so you cannot go with a single device. You must have a seperate modem.

Gargoyle will do a nice job of splitting your bandwidth between your brother and you. The router you will need depends on the speed of your DSL link which you did not specify.

You do not need to purchase a router on this site but its a convenience if you would like to go that route.

There is much information on how QoS works in the documentation link of this site. Please read that and if you have questions post them on this thread.
