hi, this is my problem:
i got a brand new fonera+ 2201 with the intention to use it as a repeater with DD-WRT, i managed to flash it via AP51 flashing tool (everything OK), but, since i was'nt able to get it to work as a repeater with DD-WRT i thought i could put some other easier firmware on the Fonera. Googling around i found the gargoyle and i wanted to give it a try. I used the Fonflash utility found on the gargoyle site this time. at the time i flashed gargoyle, there was already dd-wrt installed, anyways, i loaded the two gargoyle images ( root and vmlinux) on the utility, started the flashing proces ( i am aware about the access timing). The process goes smooth in all of its steps, it finishes and avery thing seems done. i let the router take a couple of minutes and then i restart it. NOTHING HAPPENS. no life signal aof any kind from the router. only the power led works. i tried the procedure several times. same result. Any ideas? im desperate. please help.
where am i going wrong ?

Re: Did I brick It or What....?
1) Don't Panic!
2) It is VERY hard to brick Fonera's, the older ones, such as
Fon 2201+, Fon 2100, Fon 2200, because they're redboot based.
You're always able to get to a redboot console.
3) Google Telnet Fonera Redboot - lots of info.
4) You need to Login to your Fonera via Telnet
The program Putty is usually the easiest from a windows machine
You would do the following process
Set your IP address to 192.168.1.2
Netmask - 255.255.255.0 - Gateway 192.168.1.1
Startup Putty and telnet to 192.168.1.1 port 9000
Before you start the session, you need to unplug the fonera
Once you plug in the Fonera, immediately start the putty session.
You only have a few seconds to catch the redboot prompt.
Once you're at a -- Redboot> prompt - you're set to recover
You want to perform an 'fis init -f' command to completely wipe
the fonera's nvram and only leave the redboot info.
Once that part is done - it takes 1-2 minutes to erase the flash,
you want to run Fon Flash again
Perform Fon Flash, as instructed, once completed - which takes
about 20-30 minutes on a Fonera 2201+ (I have one, so I know!)
You should be able to access the gui at 192.168.1.1 and set it up.
Read this whole thing, do some google searches/reading as I have
listed above, understand the process, then try it again.

Re: Did I brick It or What....?
any how-to link to access redboot and put gargoyle into the machine would be appriciated.
Re: Did I brick It or What....?
If you look in the install guide in the documentation, the procedure listed there for the Fonera describes installation by accessing redboot via telnet. (That guide was written before I wrote FonFlash)
Hope that helps.

Re: Did I brick It or What....?
ok i did the telnet redboot and did the ''fis init'' command, let it finish and then reset the router. (i understand the FIS INIT command formats the foneras memory and gives me a fresh memory to write on, so, as u say i could use Fonflash now and so i did.
same as before. the hole process goes on until the end and it says it flashed successfully ( i noticed that the FIS INIT command gets executed at the begining of the Fonflash process). nothing has changed.
I know i'm a noob at this so please help me get this straight if u understand what my problem is, since i cant understand very well all the guides on the web.
1 more thing: like i said, the first time i flashed the fonera successfuly with dd-wrt via AP51 flashing utility. does this mean have unlocked the router permanently or the flashing utility unlocks it every time it writes on it ?
PS: i had another Fonera one year ago, flashed it easily and enjoyed it for a couple of minths until it got stolen from me. But with this second, im going crazy. Please be patient and help me.

Re: where am i going wrong ?
If FonFlash starts up without error redboot should be enabled (i.e. the router is "unlocked")
This is really odd... It actually sounds like it might be a hardware issue. I've installed via bothe methods (via telnet and using fon flash) on numerous foneras, and never had this problem.
