3G Problems

Post by monto »

Hi I have a TP-Link WR1043ND V1 running FW 1.5. I am using a Sierra Wireless 320U Data Card Modem unlocked with a Virgin Mobile Broadband SIM. It will not connect to Virgin Australia 3G.
The settings are:
APN: virginbroadband
Username and Password are empty.

This same SIM and 320U works in a Cisco 527w. The difference is that there are more settings available in the Cisco like "Dial Number", "Authentication" etc.
The "Authentication" is set to "PAP" in the Cisco as Virgin recommends this setting.
I'm wondering if this is the problem with the Gargoyle as I cannot set this independently?

If I use other Service Provider SIMs in the TP-Link WR1043ND they work. No problems.

Cheers

Brian

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl- ... .3g.modems
USB 3G Modems
:!: USB 3G modem issue (insufficient power). TL-WR1043ND v1.x does NOT deliver enough power for most USB 3G modems, which can lead to erratic behavior such as droped/failed connections. If a 3G USB modem is to be used, consider other routers with a USB port that delivers enough Amperes. (e.g. Buffalo WZR-HP-AG300H)

Compatible USB 3G modems
e.g. Huawei E1550
Note for TL-WR1043ND v2:
I got a stable 3g connection on my router! I don't see any erratic behavior! I tested the router with the following 3g modems:

TCT Mobile One Touch X500D
TCT Mobile X220L
ZTE MF632

Thanks for the advice but I don't think that is the problem because if I use a Telstra SIM (or Vodaphone or Optus) the connection is rock solid. I think that it's the PAP Authentication issue but I need to know how to change that setting in the O/S?

Hi
Just to make a suggestion to the software.
The following fields should be added to the gui:
Access Number: *99#
Advanced Settings
Authentication: (AUTO,PAP,CHAP)
IP: Dynamic/Static
DNS: Dynamic/Static
Wins: Dynamic/Static

Hi all,

Just checking if you got the 320U going with gargoyle - and if there are any pointers for me.

Kind Regards,
Adrian
