I have done some more testing, I've tried reflashing Gargoyle, resetting the router, then resetting it back to TP-Link and then installing their latest firmware. In each case a Wifi network can be seen, the connection appears to authenticate, but it will not remain connected. I have tried this from a Windows 7 machine which simply says "Unable to connect" and also from Android devices that just immediately disconnect.
By flashing the different roms I think i've proved that the software isn't an issue.... is this looking like a hardware issue then?
Just to add my woeful Virgin Media Superhub does work OK... although the range is poor. I am thinking of perhaps buying a Tp-Link TL-WDR4900 as a replacement for the 1043ND.

Re: Faulty Wireless
Being 12 meters from a cell tower could definitely cause issues I would think.
But to be sure why not take your router and and android phone to some other location and see if they can connect without the cell tower so close. Just power up the router and see if the android device can connect and maintain the connection even though you will not have an internet connection.
Your biggest issues are perhaps with the devices and not the router in which case buying a new router will do nothing for you.

Re: Faulty Wireless
Hi, not really had a chance to take the router anywhere else, but reading around I think there is an issue with my firmware version of the router 1.8

I've ordered the 4900 anyway now to see what happens... the 1043 has served me well for two years I guess.

Re: Faulty Wireless
I guess you know that the WDR4900 cannot run Gargoyle and probably cannot run OpenWRT either so I hope DD-WRT works out for you.
You could have easily selected another router which could have run all three.

Re: Faulty Wireless
I didn't no... but I based the decision to buy on it's features and general reviews... so hopefully I will be happy with the choice. I don't really need things like guest lans etc...
