WRT54GS v4 not responding after turning wifi on

Post by jaimecruz »

Yesterday I installed Gargoyle 1.5.10 in my Linksys WRT54GS v4 from DD-WRT.

The upgrade was successful and after the reboot I can access the router at 192.168.1.1 without problems.

I changed the password, set the time and activate the wifi.

The router reboot and since then I can't access it. The power light keeps blinking forever and no access from web page.

I can ping at 192.168.1.1 and I get a TTL=64 but I can't do any more.
I tried to tftp a new firmware but I can't connect.

In failsafe mode I can telnet the router but I don't know what to do there.

Help please!!

Thanks.

Get into failsafe mode. You can go back to the stock default values for everything with:

mount_root
mtd -r erase rootfs_data

After put the 2 commands indicated the router reboot but the power light continue blinking after 10 minutes. I power off and on again and the same.
But now when I ping, I get a few TTL=100 so I tftp the firmware again.

The gargoyle main menu appears in the web browser. I change the password, the time and activate WIFI and reboot.

The original problem appears again. :(

So finally I tftp the dd-wrt firmware and everything is working again.

I think that the actual firmware 1.5.10 have some problems with the WRT54GS V4.

Later I will try to load a previous version to see what happen.

Thanks for your help.

Maybe you are right about 1.5.10. I seem to remember something about OpenWrt's Attitude Adjustment branch (which 1.5.10 is based on) being too much for older routers like the WRT54G. Maybe the GS too.

You can try something from the Backfire branch if you still want Gargoyle. I think Gargoyle 1.4.7 was the last stable in that branch, 1.5.7 seems to be the last experimental, but the first page of that thread seems to suggest there were some issues.
