Attached Hard Drive Slow?

Post by travanx »

I am on 1.5.9 on a WNDR 3700 v2. I have a 3TB USB drive hooked up and it has been working fine up until a couple days ago. I noticed the last time it seemed slow I just deleted some files and it was working fine again. Currently the drive has 347GB free. What's the best way to test the drive on my Win8 PC to see if its dying? I haven't done anything else to the router or hard drive so its most likely dying, but I wanted to post in case anyone else had this issue and figured out it was something else.

To add I flashed to the latest firmware and same issue. The drive is a Seagate external USB and I was able to use SeaTools and it instantly failed the short test. So that's my answer.

Just got the refurb drive in the mail and I so far am able to mount one drive to one WNDR3700v1 and the other to WNDR3700v2 and copy the files over. I hope this holds up before completely failing.

Run a surface scan on the hdd using something like hddtune.
While you are at it, take a look at the SMART information to see if the drive is good or not.
