I have a WR1043ND that has been very successfully running 1.5.7 for many months.
Yesterday it was inaccessible. On a power cycle it is briefly available: can ping it, ssh, wireless is up, etc and after about 15 seconds it goes down.
Experimenting show that if it is plugged in *without* the internet connection then everything is fine. Plug in the internet connection and 10 seconds later the router stops responding, wireless disappears. Unplug the internet and it comes back responsive, but looks like it has rebooted ... maybe it is stuck in a permanent reboot loop?
The flash memory doesn't report full. There were no configuration recently.
Upgraded to 1.5.10 and it upgraded fine but shows the same behaviour.
The internet connection is configured for DHCP since the downstream device (a 2.4GHz wireless radio) only works this way, so there is a private IP on the WAN side as well as the LAN side.
Any suggestions on what might be the problem or further trouble shooting steps?
Thanks!

Not sure if you are still having issues but you need to do
a full reset (Reset to Defaults) and re-configure from scratch
Backup your current config first, then reboot, then reset to defaults
and let the router reboot again
Before configuring anything - just attach the WAN cable and see if
the router still acts up or stops responding
If a fresh config still has those issues - something may have happened
to the router WAN port and it may need to be replaced.
Other option is use your repeater as the main and use this as
the repeater if the WAN port has gone faulty
