A mundane question, probably stupid but............
Why cant we upgrade this router to Gargoyle by using the D-Link web interface/update/browse
Is it because the Gargoyle firmware is several tiers rather than one single file?
Thanks,
Alistair

Re: D-Link DIR-300 install
Reading this:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/d-link/dir-300
it seems that the mtd/sysupgrade utilities (which write the firmware ont the flash chip) cannot handle the FIS that is needed for *this device*. Apparently, the bootloader Redboot can do that. And you can only access the bootloader interface on the command line typing arcane commands.
Most interfaces are glorified ways of entering these commands. At some point (even OpenWrt's Luci), its all about these arcane commands - giving them a nice button or drop-down menu. As the bootloader is only active at the very beginning - long before Gargoyle can serve a webpage - you can't use a browser.
