Setting up DIR-615 as Gateway Router

Post by rabbitrum »

Hi everyone. Thanks for taking the time out of your days to read this. I have to say, I have a very limited understanding of computer networking, but I'm trying to my best to figure it all out.

Right now I have a Linksys E1000 connected to my modem as the gateway router and first access point. Then I have a D-Link DIR-615 which I flashed with gargoyle and connected them using their respective LAN ports to create a second access point. I changed the router iP of the DIR-615 and disabled DHCP on it and yay, both access points connect to the internet. I would love to have this in the reverse order so that the D-Link router is first, but I couldn't for the life of me set up the D-Link as a gateway router so I used the Linksys router as the gateway instead. I'm not really sure what config settings to use on gargoyle. I noticed that when I tried to set the D-Link as the gateway, the "current ip" and "lease expires" box would be empty after I saved the settings and I couldn't connect to either access points. Could that be part of the problem?

Thanks again everybody. Sorry for lacking so much in experience.
