Successfully flashed D-Link DIR-615 E5 with Gargoyle

Post by brun0ls »

Hello! This is for D-Link Dir-615 E5 Gargoyle
dir 615 e5 gargoyle, dir 615 firmware, dir-615 e5 custom, dir-615 e5 flashing (trying to help google)

I just created an account to praise this WONDERFUL firmware and its creators, you guys did a very very great job! :D

Also I came to say that the D-Link DIR-615 E5 Supports it PERFECTLY, and you don't have to do nothing as some forums say, like flashing some other Firmwares to prepare it to receive a E4 Firmware.

You can just open your sealed box, put the D-Link DIR-615 E5 in Emergency Mode and Flash the firmware for the D-Link DIR-615 E4!

But there is a trick to get into the Emergency Mode! For me, it ONLY WORKED when the Ethernet cable was in the WAN port!
I had to put my Computer in Safe Mode with Network, (to avoid different thing trying to acess the Internet) and used FireFox 3.6 Portable, you can find it easily on Google! If you are having problems, do exactly as I say.

Detailed instructions:

Disconnect all cables from the router and then connect only your computer to the WAN port!
This is what worked for my REV E5!!

1 - Download the Gargoyle Firmware for the DIR-615 E4.
2 - Restart your computer into 'Safe mode with Networking'. Just to be sure.
3 - Set computer to 192.168.0.2; Router is 192.168.0.1
4 - Switch DIR-615 off, press reset button, keep pressed and switch on. Keep button pressed until the Power LED blinks in orange.
5 - Use Firefox. I used 3.6 but other versions may work also. IE7, IE8, Chrome and Opera all failed. Point the browser to 192.168.0.1
6 - In the screen that comes up, choose the firmware file and click send. Then wait patiently while the upgrade counts the percent uploaded. After it showed 100%, I waited and extra 2 minutes, just to be on the safe side.
7 - Pull the power from the router and switch is on again.
8 - The browser should now come on again with default settings. This means DHCP is on and the subnet is now 192.168.1.x, router being 192.168.1.1
9 - Change the computers IP to automatic IP (DHCP on) and wait until the router completes the boot.
10 - Point your browser (any browser should work now) to 192.168.1.1 and you should get the login screen.

DONE! :D

It works perfectly, and it is the BEST firmware you can have on the DIR-615! I love Gargoyle sooo much! It is so easy to use!

Thanks for all the developers of this amazing front-end/firmware!! :)
