DD-WRT to Gargoyle

Any ideas as to whether one can convert a DD-WRT router to Gargoyle without having to go back to stock firmware first? What I'd like to do is:
DD-WRT -> Gargoyle 1.5.9

instead of

DD-WRT -> Stock -> Gargoyle 1.5.9

Did you try? I think I have done this several times but cannot remember the details. Just try the .bin file and/or the .trx file.
