"incorrect password" lockout on admin panel

Post by hugz »

Hi

I just installed gargoyle_1.5.9-ar71xx-generic-wndr3800-squashfs-factory.img on my brand new Netgear WNDR3800.

It worked nicely for a few hours, but now it just says "invalid password" while trying to log into the admin panel.

I tried the following:

1. Set IP to 192.168.1.2

2. C:/Users\Jess\Downloads>PING 192.168.1.1

Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

3. C:\Users\Jess\Downloads>tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put gargoyle_1.5.9-ar71xx-generic-wn
dr3800-squashfs-factory.img

Help please.

I installed it via a network cable via firefox on Windows 7. I have a vague memory of it eorking like this:
1. Set up, work nicely
2. Set new password, copy and paste into notepad
3. Log back in later and get "invalid password"
4. Copy and paste from notepad- success!
5. Open admin panel from a second computer. Try password, fail. Try again, fail.
6. "hmm maybe it won't log in because it's still logged in at computer #1
7. Log out of computer #1. #2 still won't log in and now #1 won't log in either.

help please

edit: tried turning off the router for 20 seconds and on again. no change. If it helps:

I run recvudp.exe and turn on the router. I get the message "Please press button to enter safefail".

There are only 4 buttons on the router I can see- Wifi, secure wifi, power and the "restore factory settings" button. I don't wanna know what would happen to the router if I pressed it, so I try the other 3.

Nothing.

I try to hold them. Nothing.

Next I try plugging my LAN cable into the router's WAN port
Microsoft Telnet> open 192.168.1.1
Connecting To 192.168.1.1...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed
Help please
