Tplink wr741nd v4.2 password lockout

Post by alksong »

uploaded with gargoyle 1.5.8 and it was working and stable till I set the router in bridge mode and log it to my main router via wifi with wpa-psk2 aes. it logged in but I notice it restarting the router every 5 to 8 minutes. I reduced the security to wep as I tried previous gargoyle versions with wep and it was stable. Is 1.5.8 unstable with wpa-psk2? Ok then I changed the ip and gateway set and was kicked out of my gargoyle management console. I am very sure that I did not type a wrong ip or gateway so I pressed the reset button for 10 sec. BIG MISTAKE! Although I ipconfig and got the router ip and management console back, to my horror, the password is not accepted. I tried the default and it did not work either. Can anyone help here? I tried Putty and SSH but the username:root and password: password does not work

You can recover your router using fail safe mode.

Linksys WRT1900ACv2
Netgear WNDR3700v2
TP Link 1043ND v3
TP-Link TL-WDR3600 v1

thanks pbix for your help in telnet and another person in the forum that said telnet in cmd may not work in windows 8. Telnet DOES NOT WORK IN WINDOWS 8
For people out there are are less savvy, here are the steps I used:
1) Use a windows XP machine
2) Go to your adaptor settings and change your IP to 192.168.1.10 for the pc you are using and 192.168.1.1 for both the gateway and dns
3) go to run and type cmd
4) power off your router and when the moment its on with the sys light up, press the reset button for 3 to 10 seconds. If you got it right the sys light will flash very fast. if you did not get it, repeat the process till you get the sys lights to flash fast
5)type "telnet 192.168.1.1" on the cmd panel and gargoyle should appear stating you are connected
6) type "firstboot" and wait for the command to execute
7) restart the router and you should be able to go into gargoyle web management console with 192.168.1.1 and the default password of "password"

pbix, how are you? how do I change the adapter region channel? In 1.4.7 there is a area in device configuration where you would set where you are and you will get channels 1 to 13. I believe in 1.5.8 its in the intial setup where you set your own password and the timezone of where you are located which may tell where you are? My router is using channel 12 (Asia) bandwidth. I presume the settings on gargoyle 1.5.8 maybe for EU and only for 1 to 11? Is it a bug to be fixed or is it a mistake on my part to not set something? Can you help?
