Bandwith Totals Missing
Here's another issue we need help with, while the firmware seems to be great, this little issue is perplexing my son at his house... he just set up with a WRT54GL and .10 Gargoyle. He has been tweaking things, specifically turning the broadcast SSID function on and off because of some strange anomalies. (with it on he sees multiple clients "connected" under connected hosts, where in fact they are not, he is using encryption and its a brand new key). After doing so, the router reports its full up-time since he started, but the bandwidth usage history for that same time period is gone, with only today's consumption (60mb at this point) showing, whereas there was 1.6 Gb of total traffic prior.
Is this a RAM vs NVRAM issue, where some data is store in NV and some just in RAM?
I suggested to him that once he has things working as he likes to leave it alone and see if there is still an issue... he suspects that someone unplugged the router or it reset itself somehow... he needs to lock it away from reach of his tenants.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions. R
Thanks,

Re: Bandwith Totals Missing
Unless a new bug is out there, the missing bandwidth issues
should have been resolved.
See if it can be re-created.
I would suggest backing up all his settings and do a
reset to defaults and then restore the settings.

Re: Bandwith Totals Missing
I will check to see if his backup pages are working unlike mine... I have other pages missing too, like the upgrade page... weird!
So you are suggesting a hard reset (reset butting held for 30 seconds?) to resolve the bandwith data issue?

Re: Bandwith Totals Missing
I don't know if the Reset button is programmed on the devices?
I never use it myself. I have an Atheros device I test on, so
when I flash that, I have an option to go in and manually
erase the nvram chip so that only Redboot - the loader that
comes up before any firmware, is the only thing left on the
router. That way I know it starts fresh everytime I flash a new
version of the firmware.
In the Administration - can't remember the name of the tab,
there should be an option to reset all settings to default.
Gargoyle will blank out all settings and file info. BUT I think that
it still keeps bandwidth logs.
That's the reset method I'm talking about.

Re: Bandwith Totals Missing
Got home and checked
System Tab -> Backup / Restore -> Restore Default Configuration
I believe that blanks everything back to a fresh install of Gargoyle.
I THINK it still keeps the old Bandwidth monitor data, but again
backup all your settings first.
Every flash I do, I re-enter all settings manually.
I don't keep Bandwidth data though, so I'm not sure on that.

Re: Bandwith Totals Missing
Hi,
I'm having the same problem with Gargoyle 1.1.3 on a WRT54GL.
All users have a static IP assigned. 4 wireless clients (5 including the Wii) and 2 wired clients. QoS is disabled.
I periodically check the data to see who is using too much data, and it disappeared between checks today. I know that nobody has touched the router as I have been home all day and nobody has been near it. No power cuts either.
This is slightly frustrating as I am trying to see who uses how much data so as I can assign appropriate quotas.

Re: Bandwith Totals Missing
You're saying that ALL your bandwidth data disappeared randomly, and you're sure the router hasn't rebooted? Have you updated settings in one of the other sections, since this too can cause the bandwidth monitor to restart (though the data SHOULD be saved)? I've never seen/heard of this happening completely spontaneously -- the post you're replying to is referencing the loss of data after the bandwidth monitor is restarted due to other configuration changes (and is from a while ago, referring to a problem I thought was fixed).
Is any data being generated since it randomly died, or is the bandwidth monitor just reporting completely blank graphs for even recent time frames? If you try to download bandwidth data using the big button on the bottom what output do you get?

Re: Bandwith Totals Missing
Hi,
It hasn't seemed to have reset itself again. It may be possible that something I did elsewhere made it happen? I can't remember now what I was doing.
I downloaded the bandwidth file, but I don't really understand the output on it! I think I will let it be for now, and if it happens again I'll take closer note as to what I'm doing and let you know.
Meanwhile I have to sort a different issue, I'll post that separately.
Thanks Eric!

Re: Bandwith Totals Missing
Eric,
On the subject of the data file you can download, is there any chance you can add a header row? Also, when looking at the content, I don't really see much of value.... when comparing this to other firmware packages such as Tomato, DD-WRT, even LinkSys, there is little for us to glean from the numbers, some formatting would be relevant.
Would this be something you'd consider at some point?
Thx
