Random Reboots (WiFi Related?)

Post by vask »

Anyone else have random reboots on the 1.4.7 STABLE firmware?

I have been using a WRT54GL for the past 2 months and experience random reboots every few days. The reboots happen when one of the following conditions is met:
- WRT54GL has wifi (802.11b only) enabled
- There is another router behind the WRT54GL with wifi (802.11b only) enabled, and the WRT54GL's wifi is disabled.
I have not experienced reboots when wifi is completely disabled on my network or not working for some reason. ie) wifi is broadcasting but no clients can connect for some reason.

My WRT54GL is intended to function only as a splitter from the cable modem. Perhaps there is a better router firmware I can use that will provide more stability for this purpose?

Please advise.

More Info:

I have also tried the experimental firmware but that seems to increase the frequency of the random reboots.

I plan to try another firmware on the router like DD-WRT if the router reboots randomly again to see if this increases stability.

To try and eliminate the reboots I have disabled the following software on my network:
Yacy: http://yacy.net/
GnuNet: https://gnunet.org/

So far uptime is 2 days.

Gargoyle rebooted randomly again (From clicking on a web link on my PC).

So for stability I have switched to
Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) std
And I am using a different WRT54GL than before.
DD-WRT boots much faster than gargoyle and I haven't had any random reboots yet.

I am not sure what caused the reboots. I still run Gargoyle on a WNDR3800 on my network which doesnt randomly reboot. Perhaps my hardware went bad on the WRT54GL. Perhaps the WRT54GL is getting a bit dated anyway. I will post more if I have more information. ie) I still have the WRT54GL that was randomly rebooting and just installed DD-WRT on it but am not actively using it on my network now.
