Need Some help with QOS

I am using a netgear 3700 router. running v1.5.8.
I am confused on the %BW and the Min BW settings.

I could see having one or the other, but both makes it confusing to me.
Can someone explain these two settings better.

Well I think the video may be a first I wish everyone took the time to document what they are doing as well.

First what is your available upload and download bandwidth? You have 1400kbps entered in your screen but I can see that you only got 1024kbps during your test. So the 1400 you entered is too high and without the active congestion controller enabled it cannot work. You noted in your video that the ACC was disabled. I recommend you set download speed to 100% of your link speed and enable ACC.

What about the upload QoS page? What is the upload speed you can get? Did you set the speed correctly there and is the upload QoS enabled? On the upload page you must set the speed at 95% of your available upload bandwidth. You must enable upload QoS for the active congestion controller to work.

Finally back on the download QoS page make sure you check the "Enable Active Congestion Controller" box (after enabling the upload QoS) and save.

Give us some feedback once you get the settings correct.

First what is your available upload and download bandwidth?

My download limit is 122kByte, i will adjust it.
My upload is 32kByte.

i was unaware that no enabling the upload would keep QOS from working properly. I have enabled it.

In the active congestion controller section I see the ping target is 192.168.1.1. The ACC it checking for congestion between you and this target. It does not make sense that the ping target is 192.168.1.1. This is a local address. Also I see the ping times are zero which also means your ping target is too close. You should have ping times of around 80-100ms with that link.

Maybe you should explain how you are connected to the internet. What is the IP address of your router and the one upstream?

Gargoyle chooses your WAN gateway as the default ping target. I have a feeling that you have hooked your Gargoyle router to your home router. If that is the case Gargoyle is only controlling congestion between it and your home router. This not the link of interest. We want the one between your home router and the actual internet. Look at the gateway on your home router. Enter this gateway as the ping target in Gargoyle by checking the box and manually entering the IP address.

Everything else in your setup is OK so leave everything else alone.

I have my DSL modem. Its not like the typical kind i see in which it has multiple LAN jacks in the back it only has one.
Out of there its connected to my Netgear 3700 to which everything is connected to that.

The model is 192.168.1.46 and my LAN is 192.168.0.x
I did not check the check box next to "Use non-standard ping target" in the ACC settings so i though it didnt matter.
SO you saying i should check it and put 192.168.0.46 in there ?

Your modem is at 192.168.1.1. Go to its web page and find out the IP address of your gateway listed there. Then enter this IP address into the QoS Download page. Look for a status screen and find the gateway address. It will probably be something other than 192.168.x.x. Maybe something 10.50.x.x.

You have a DSL link with your modem in router mode and I am going to assume that it is a PPPoE link. This can work but performance will be better if you switch your modem to 'bridge mode' as documented here http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/dok ... adsl_modem

But since you are so close to getting QoS to work before you try switching modes you should get the gateway address entered correctly into your QOS download page. Then you will see the QoS working correctly and you can contemplate switching your modem to bridge mode.

I have the same type of link as you but my modem is in bridge mode and the WAN setup section looks like this.

Ah... There is the problem. My modem is setup in bridge mode. I changed my settings for that now. All seems to be good now.
