I need to turn off / change my router's current repeater/bridge configuration, and instead change to: router connects to another router, but is NOT a repeater/bridge.
After changing to a bridge/repeater configuration, I lost access to the Gargoyle configuration menu, and when my PC is connected by cable to the router, I keep getting
"Local area connection 2 does not have a valid IP configuration" messages => so using either 10.0.0.1 or 10.0.0.2 or 192.168.1.1 will not connect, and all give "connection timed out messages. I have tried resetting the router by holding the reset button for 3 sec, 5 sec, 10 sec and over 30 sec, and also by pressing the reset button rapidly - all after re-booting the router... no luck.
Background: As a newbie to configuring routers, using 10.0.0.2, I entered Gargoyle's menu, and was switching my router from a configuration that used only ethernet cabling to receive internet, to instead change to hook up my router to my neighbor's wireless signals. I entered the neighbor's IP router address, his SSID, and password OK, but then I thought it would be fun to have my little router act also as a repeater/bridge router as it connected to the neighbor's router, (to boost signals in our home).
Since I only marginally understood what I was doing, I did NOT enter a different new IP address for my router (e.g. no 192.168.1.1XX entered).
My router is currently working fine as a repeater, connecting to the neighbor's router - broadcasting/receiving good (10 MB/3 MB) wireless signals around our home, and also working fine by connections with PCs using ethernet cable.
Unfortunately, this router is a special purpose router that WAS set up to provide an internet connection to a special receiver card. Now that I have the router set up as a repeater, the card will not exchange data over the internet. The supplier of the card said I MUST turn OFF the repeater/bridge function on the router.
I am stuck at this point. I cannot access the router via my PC to make this change. I have tried accessing the router using an ethernet cable, with my PC wireless card disabled. no luck...
When I try to access the Gargoyle router wirelessly, I can see the router fine, enter the password fine, but then get the
"Local area connection 2 does not have a valid IP configuration" messages again.
IPCONFIG gives a BLANK default gateway ...
Thanks in advance for any help,
steve
