WAN not working on TP-Link TL-WR1043ND

So as somebody with basically zero programming knowledge, I thought I'd give it a crack anyway putting that patch on backfire. Unfortunately it looks like there's been some pretty big changes with the source code in trunk vs backfire and I have absolutely no idea where to pop those commands in. :-/

Looks like Attitude Adjustment (OpenWrt 12.08) will branch from trunk in the very near future : https://lists.openwrt.org/pipermail/ope ... 16411.html

I plan to start work on support for current trunk (which will become the new attitude adjustment branch) in preparation for this very soon.

EDIT: I'm kinda surprised Eric hasn't run into this himself yet. I've recommended this router to *another* friend who is also in the same boat. However, yesterday this 2nd friend (Yes, more than one friend!! :O ) took his back to PBTech and they happily swapped it out for 1043ND which goes fine.

Hi All,

I discovered the existence of Gargoyle yesterday, and it is just what I need, so I bought a tplink 1043 today and found the exact same problem: WAN not functional with Gargoyle while it is ok with TPLink firmware.

Unfortunately, I don't bring anything new, just a testimony showing that the problem is gaining ground.

Someone posted on openwrt that he had the problem with this bootloader:
root@tpl2:~# grep -a U-Boot /dev/mtd0ro | cut -d'I' -f1
U-Boot 1.1.4 (Feb 6 2012 - 17:03:51)

I also have the problem with this slightly later rev:
root@Gargoyle:~# grep -a U-Boot /dev/mtd0ro | cut -d'I' -f1
U-Boot 1.1.4 (Mar 31 2012 - 10:40:21)

If only there was a way to get Gargoyle working with these newer ones in the mean time.

OpenWRT works, but it's not quite the consolation prize I was hoping for right now....

Ok guys these steps worked for me.

1. Revert back to TP-Link firmware. wr1043nv1_en_3_9_17-sysupgrade.bin

2. Flash with this German firmware wr1043nv1_de_3_9_17_up_boot(100331).bin

3. Flash with gargoyle_1……-ar71xx-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-factory.bin

Now the WAN port will work. If anybody needs a link to the wr1043nv1_de_3_9_17_up_boot(100331).bin firmware..I would be happy to upload to dropbox
