Looking at the release notes I think you are right, though this is I respect of acc I would still have 1.5.4 unless you have reason not to. My router is a netgear 3700 v2 and I am on this build

I'm all ears, so what's the difference between 1.4.7 and 1.5.4? Does it make sense to upgrade? I do not use 5.4 GHz, only 2.4 and I don't use the USB for shared disk, I have a SAN for that.

So is it worthwhile to upgrade, or just wait to 1.4.8?

BTW, how stable is EXPERIMENTAL? I have the wife to think about and she doesn't like it when things become unstable. All I get is grief and the old, "why are you playing around with that "thing", can't you just leave it alone". The differences between the boys and the girls I guess. No double entendre intended.

In the Qos download do you have an active congestion control, if not then that's a massive part of gargoyle where it keeps track of your line speed to ensure qos is working well. The best way to see the difference is the release notes in the announcements - acc was listed in 1.5.4 but not in 1.4.7 appeared to be lots of other things. I have always been on the 1.5.x releases with no issues (other than resetting config at update each time)

1.4.7 does have ACC on Download. I've set it on to see what the impact is and how the system performs. I'm not sure about the ping target as 1.4.7 does not allow me to change to a non standard ping target.

Hi guys,

I was looking for a WNDR3700 v2 but it looks like only v3 are sold now at major retailers, offline and online.

What would be the best router now to buy? I just want a router that has enough horsepower to handle Gargoyle and that has at least the "same" specs as the WNDR3700.

There is the WNDR3800 but I think it is too pricey since it brings nothing more compared to the 3700.

Thanks!

I would look at the atheros set of routers in supported routers and choose from the specs there. They are in the same family as the 3700 so you can use the factory firmware interface to update.

Memory/flash memory are main aspects to check imho and USB is also quite nice. Worth then searching the router you like on web and in here just to help decide. Could be worth searching v3 in here and the openwrt forums to see what the plans are with that one

To clarify I meant the atheros ar71xx routers for ease on updating to gargoyle

OK was quicker than I thought as I was already using opendns without the controls :)

Firstly yes the parental controls works with i believe one exception! So in terms of working I set the block up then went to an adult page and it correctly blocked it and gave the custom message I had set.

However what I am not so sure is on the bypass side and specifying internal ips that can be ignored or codes to bypass, is this possible on your setup?. This part maybe the netgear part! However without signing up (I assume you pay a subscription) I can't be sure! Are you able to send me a screenshot(s) of how you can stop some pcs not fulling under these controls - either from the netgear or the opendns. This http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/M ... hotcaptor/ is very good for doing screenshots if you need to blur aspects out.

If it is mac address then that is easier but the documentation seems to imply that either you use the router like the netgear or you install software on the pc (which I am loath todo). If it is a specific netgear side then would see a big benefit of adding this into Gargoyle - but I suspect it is a monetary aspect, but will follow this up with opendns if that proves to be the case to see what is possible.

Actually I was wrong on this, the only easy way I can see is check the download section and see which ones have factory files to see what can be upgrades from factory firmware
