Gargoyle on E3000 / WNDR3700

Post by tatsuya46 »

Is this unit supported? Its not in the support list here or on OpenWRT but there is a "gargoyle_1.5.4-brcm47xx-squashfs.trx" file and the E3000 has the Broadcom 4718 CPU so... will that work or brick?

It will render your router needing to be recovered via serial.

It's HARD to brick routers now.

Stick with DD-WRT for the E3000 for a while yet.

You could try Gargoyle on your Netgear though.

I did quite some time ago on both the WNDR3700 v1 and DIR-825 which both had the same issues (figures, both have the same CPU, radios, switch). Which at the time was wireless problems especially 5GHz, LEDs not working, settings not saving on GUI and more so I immediately left but I been watching each change log since then and my questions are..

1. Has Gargoyle improved for AR71 units since 1.3.X/1.4.X release? Both bands can be used now, LEDs actually light up now, settings save and apply when I click so?

2. Can I use one radio in client mode to connect to another AP, then setup a virtual AP with that same radio to broadcast a SSID to connect to(like ath1, ath1.1 for DD-WRT)?

3. Is there a theme/skin change option in the firmware now? From what I read someone was able to change it with a (unreleased?) plugin but everyone else had to tamper with opkg etc stuff to change a simple theme.. I read it was going to be added to the GUI "soon" but that was over a year ago, absolutely hate the stock appearance, there needs to be some choice like the rest of the firmwares.

4. I did all the reading about QoS which looks good on paper, there is no known memory leaks with it when applying a max UP and DOWN hard limit for a machine is there? DD-WRT had that badly (and at times completely DEAD QoS) for years, only recently did they finally fix most of it after I opened dozens of tickets over the years and nearly got banned for pushing for a fix but it STILL lacks control of RATE, CEIL and quota.

1) Yes - try the 1.5.4 release - its pretty solid

2) Yes, but not via the GUI, some stuff still has to be configured
via command line / putty access to the router. All OpenWRT config
options / tutorials will 99% of the time work with Gargoyle.

3) Yes, but again, will have to do it via command line, its pretty
easy to do, check the Gargoyle Development sub-forum

4) Yes pbix has done some major re-vamping of the QoS and many
users are reporting great success with it. I don't use it myself, but
give it a try - its supposed to be quite good now. See this link:
