Hi Guys,
Im running DDWRT on my WNDR3700v2. The only reason why I went with DDWRT is for the QoS. After spending some time with it, I came to the conclusion its buggy and has trouble doing the simple task of putting upload/download limits on users on my small home network.
However, I've heard Garg can do the trick!. So I now have a few questions.
1. Is the Garg firmware for the WNDR3700v2 stable? Which do you guys recommend using?
2. Can I upgrade directly using the DDWRT Upgrade Firmware interface? (or do I need to go back to Netgear stock firmware?)
3. And can Garg REALLY put a limit on download/upload spead on the few users connected to my router using their mac address or IP address? Or does this feature only apply to services? (eg: Skype, MSN Messenger etc.)
4. Does Garg have better graphical representation of who is using my bandwidth on my network than DDWRT?
Currently have DDWRT wndr3700v2. Willing to switch.

From my point of view you should use v1.5.3. Many people have reported good results with your router.newtogarg wrote:1. Is the Garg firmware for the WNDR3700v2 stable? Which do you guys recommend using?
Hopefully some who has done this will comment but I suspect you can upgrade directly. Either it will work or it will not so why not try?newtogarg wrote:2. Can I upgrade directly using the DDWRT Upgrade Firmware interface? (or do I need to go back to Netgear stock firmware?)
Gargoyle QoS can limit speeds by IP address and assign fixed IP addresses to known MAC addresses so yes. Gargoyle QoS actually works for configuration details take a look at the recently enhanced Wiki. http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/doku.php?id=qosnewtogarg wrote:3. This is a matter of opinion, you will have to decided for yourself.newtogarg wrote:4. Does Garg have better graphical representation of who is using my bandwidth on my network than DDWRT?

Awesome. I will use the gargoyle_1.5.3-ar71xx-wndr3700v2-squashfs-factory.img file then. From my point of view you should use v1.5.3. Many people have reported good results with your router.
I'd really like to upgrade directly but I fear bricking this beautiful device. So I might revert to stock first. Just me paranoia speaking.Hopefully some who has done this will comment but I suspect you can upgrade directly. Either it will work or it will not so why not try?
Holy ****! That is an awesomely comprehensive article! Thanks for that. I will definitely follow that when setting up QoS.Gargoyle QoS can limit speeds by IP address and assign fixed IP addresses to known MAC addresses so yes. Gargoyle QoS actually works for configuration details take a look at the recently enhanced Wiki. http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/doku.php?id=qos
Well I'm almost sure anything can represent better in/out data than DDWRT. I will post the results (of my upgrade) in the next day or two. This is a matter of opinion, you will have to decided for yourself.

Update: Holy ****! What a beast garg is! It runs fast and smooth and has a WORKING QoS. I am in love. Thank you pbix for your info. Thank you Garg (for being a pro ass firmware).
(Yes yes... I am still reading the QOS article. Need to limit upload on webcam sessions on my network.)
