I'm assuming restoring a config from 1.6 to 1.7, have the same effect, So I guess we should have done more reading

Agreed here as well. 1.7.1 does NOT like restoring configs from a previous version on my TP-Link TL-WR841N/ND v7. 1.7 no probs. After a few days running 1.7.1 went into a boot loop about every 50 seconds, strange and nothing in cron that looked out of the ordinary. Backed down to 1.7 with old config...
