Re: firewall
security experts recommend layers of security, so having a hardware firewall AND a software firewall is fine. Actually very good, just might be tough to trouble shot when you need to open something up you have to look at all the layers to figure out whats causing the issue.

WRT54GL stuck in rebooting cycle/loop
Hi everyone, I made a MAC address change (WAN) in order to get a new IP as I usually do but this time it didn't seem to get any IP so I did it again, then again and rebooted to see if it helped and now the router seems to be stuck in a strange rebooting loop. It will not hand out DHCP (maybe it does...

Re: New to Gargoyle setup help!

Re: QoS: Transferred Amount/Connection Bytes Reach
I think I recall what reverie is talking about, I do remember tomato had this setup by default (before switching to gargoyle). The reason 1mb is too high is because the most crucial data coming from ports 53 (dns) is normally small and we want this passed as quickly as possible over other data, same...

Re: asus wl-520gu
Hi, I am looking at buying this as secondary since it's the cheapest of the working routers. I found some specs and it looks decent, have you tested the wireless since your post, does it work? did you try the new firmware since your post and if so how is it? also is there USB support with gargoyle? ...

Re: router by dns (instead of IP)
Eric: thanks, I'm glad you like it! and don't worry about the updates, it is a great project and we can see you put a lot into it, I unfortunately am not good at OOP but can do some scripting so can help you with small things like this... And its very easy to do manually so even if the next update ...

router by dns (instead of IP)
Hi, I wanted to access the router by name instead of IP address so for example 'ping router' will return 192.168.1.1 (so if I change router IP it will be simple to get http and ssh, no need to remember IP address) and in this example 'http://router' will be the interface. My attempt works now but ma...
