Archer C5 / C7

Post by Walton »

Hi all,

I have been using Netgear WNDR 3700 and 3800's for a while. It's time to upgrade the 3700 as a precaution. It's at a remote site so I would rather not have it fail.

I have been looking at the TP Link Archer C5 as an option. the TP Link site states there is a V1 and a V2 version of this router.

Is anyone aware if the C5 firmware is compatible with both versions of the C5?

If not, is the C7 an easy to install option, or is it still a bit in new territory?

Thanks, John

OK, just been reading what I should have read before posting.

The C5 is Broadcom based so no Gargoyle.

Can my question still stand re the C7 please.

Archer C7 V2 will be fine, but you'll probably have to take a round-a-bout way of flashing it with Gargoyle, which is well documented on the forum

I think I better leave this.

If i understand, i can flash DD-WRT. But then can I flash 1.9.1 factory image per Gargoyle site?

Or do I have to use the Lede project image? Then which one. I am in Australia, not US or EU.

Thank you

Being in Australia I think you'll end up with an image with either:
0 restrictions (flash straight to gargoyle)
OR
EU restrictions (flash to LEDE first)

Not likely to get the US version I don't reckon.

Also rather than using 1.9.1 please use the latest 1.9.X from the forum. There was a flash chip change which meant a new image was required and it's not worth the drama of guessing which one you have.

OK, by forum you mean the Lede project download don't you?

Sorry , I haven't been here for a while and always download from this Gargoyle site before.

This one is the most recent

Any of the latest lede images will have the appropriate patch so shouldn't matter there.
