Website Updates and Suggestions

Post by StopSpazzing »

I wanted to suggest a bunch of things which can help the community grow and be overall more secure. Suggestions are as follows:

*Update the site phpbb version to 3.x
*Use a more modern theme design
*Install https certs using Let's Encrypt
*Change the stub for forums from phpbb to forum, then use .htaccess to redirect all phpbb to forum using wildcard redirect; meaning any current links will still work, and goto the new forum links.
*Use .htaccess to remove .php from your flat files.

If you want ease of use, you could also use a CMS to manage everything outside the forums. Wordpress is a suggestion. Bunch of others also, I started to play around with Grav for example since its much lighter than Wordpress and produces flat files. Only requirement is php 5.6.x+

Having https and a mobile theme both give you higher rankings on Google.
QoS Tip: Don't complicate your QoS settings. Gargoyle evenly splits available bandwidth between active devices as needed. Just delete all your classification rules and leave only one normal service class and you're done. No more arguing over bandwidth.
