Can I flash gargoyle to my router?

Post by Jaredb »

Hi, I have a trendnet tew-632brp v1.0r. I have successfully flashed dd-wrt and openwrt with no issues. I'm wondering if my router is compatible with gargoyle too. I am very new to this so I'm not sure if I'm just missing the firmware, or if my router just isn't supported. Any help would be appreciated.

There does not appear to be an image on the Gargoyle downloads page.

With only 4MB RAM it is going to be difficult to fit Gargoyle on there (increasingly tough with current versions).

You are probably going to need to build your own image. If you are not up for the challenge it might be time to invest in a new router!

Can you help someone else get Gargoyle up and running?

You can request a firmware in the link below:

It's a 4MB flash router so I'm guessing 1.8.1 would work best assuming there's enough space (1.9 had features removed for 4MB flash routers). OpenWRT wiki link is in the post above. OpenWRT says it's supported to latest OpenWRT, too.
QoS Tip: Don't complicate your QoS settings. Gargoyle evenly splits available bandwidth between active devices as needed. Just delete all your classification rules and leave only one normal service class and you're done. No more arguing over bandwidth.

Thank you both for the replies.
I have OpenWRT on it now and saw that it was "probably" possible, which is why I was asking.
It's a fairly old router, and not my main one so I don't really mind if I brick it..... I see that this along with the 652brp are almost identical to d-link dir-615 c. I did see that someone said they managed to successfully flash gargoyle to a 652brp using the dir615 firmware. I'll look around for that.
Thanks again!
EDIT: I found an old thread here ( http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... f=8&t=4040 ) with the dir-615 c1 firmware and figured I'd give it a shot. Worst case, an old router that I dug out of the closet a few weeks ago doesn't work.... Well, the firmware from that thread worked, and in about 10 minutes from flashing I and up and running!
