Separate network on TL-WR1043ND
Hi,
Newbie here.
I have a Huawei B593-S22 Wireless-N 4G Router because I have no cables to my house.
My contract is limited to 30 GB/month.
I want to set up a second network with a limited access of 1GB/day
For the second (limited) network I have a TP-link TL-WR1043ND.
Does anybody have an idea how this could be done (simply).
Thanks,
Els

Re: Separate network on TL-WR1043ND
The most simple way that I can think of is to:
Have a read of
- Flash the TL-WR1043ND to Gargoyle 1.6.2
- Connect the B593 to the WAN port on the TL-WR1043ND
- Gargoyle - Connection - Basic - Internet/WAN - DHCP (Wired)
- Gargoyle - Firewall - Quotas - Max Total Up+Down 1GB/day - Add New Quota
- Connect the computers that you want to limit to the TL-WR1043ND (wired or wireless)

Re: Separate network on TL-WR1043ND
Thank you nworbnhoj.
Just 2 questions:
- In your setup the B593 is the first router, right?
- Alternatively, can I turn the WIFI signal off on the B593, connect it by cable to Gargoyle flashed TL-WR1043ND and just only use WIFI from this second router?
Thanks in advance,
Els

Yes. This would be the better way to go IMHO. Your initial question asked for a simple solution so I focussed on limiting change to your existing setup and a simple Gargoyle config.Elsdeniep wrote:Alternatively, can I turn the WIFI signal off on the B593, connect it by cable to Gargoyle flashed TL-WR1043ND and just only use WIFI from this second router?

The better way (very similar to my setup) is to pursue your alternative and use the B593 simply as a modem and connect it to the WAN port of the TL-WR1043ND. In this way your whole network is managed in one place - Gargoyle).
The Quota setup will be a little more involved depending on what you want to achieve (in order of increasing complexity):
- Limit the "Entire Local Network" to 1GB/day.
- Limit "All individual Hosts Without Explicit Quotas" to say 100kb/day
- Limit each person to say "200kb/day". You would need to assign a Static IP to each computer (host) so that each person's computers are in a range (eg 192.168.1.20 - 192.168.1.29). Then limit "Only the following Host(s)" to 200kb/day.

Thanks again nworbnhoj.
This was exactly the answer I was hoping for.
You have been a big help!

Re: Separate network on TL-WR1043ND
Sorry to disturb you again nworbnhoj.
I have succesfully connected the routers according to the way you pointed out in your second answer.
However, could you have a look at 2 small issues I have with this setup?
1. I have read somewhere that in a LAN-to-WAN network, I need to change the secondary router's WAN IP address to 192.168.1.51.
Would you know where to find this in Gargoyle?
2. I can only access the second router when it is connected with the ethernet cable. Do you know a way of getting to the router home page wirelessly?
Thanks in advance,
Els

If you have selected Gargoyle - Connection - Basic - Internet/WAN - DHCP (Wired), then the first router (B593) will be assigning the WAN IP address on your second router (TL-WR1043ND) automatically. If you can accesses the Internet from the TL-WR1043ND then you do not need to do anything further.Elsdeniep wrote:change the secondary router's WAN IP address to 192.168.1.51.
You should be able to connect to the TL-WR1043ND wirelessly and then type the Gargoyle LAN IP Address into your browser? Have you setup the wireless network on the TL-WR1043ND at Gargoyle - Connection - Basic - Wireless?Elsdeniep wrote:a way of getting to the router home page wirelessly?

Your answer helped me looking in the right direction: I was logged in on the guest network. After logging in in the main network, I could login in the TL-WR1043ND wirelessly!nworbnhoj wrote:

Hi nworbnhoj,
The setup is running for 2 days now and I all seems to be working fine.
As you pointed out: the wan ip address is fine indeed.
Thanks for all your help: I will buy you a Foster's when I ever get to visit Australia,
Els
