Limiting download speed to my iPad.

Limiting download speed to my iPad.
I'm new to Gargoyle Router and I want to limit download speed to my iPad to 400 kbps and downloads + uploads to 200 mb per day. What's the best way to do that?
Re: Limiting download speed to my iPad.
The best way is to use:
QoS - http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/doku.php?id=qos
and
Quotas - http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/doku.php?id=quotas
Have a read, and have a play, then when you get stuck come back with some screenshots or lists of your settings and we'll see where you went wrong

Re: Limiting download speed to my iPad.
Can I set up 2 quotas for 1 IP: one that slow the iPad's download speed to 400 kbps after downloading 1 Mb and another that cuts off internet to the iPad completely after downloading + uploading 200 Mb in a day?
Would that work?

Yes: 1 Quota rule + 1 QOS rule

Can you help someone else get Gargoyle up and running?

What about 2 Quota rules instead?nworbnhoj wrote:Yes: 1 Quota rule + 1 QOS ruleLantis wrote:Have a read, and have a play, then when you get stuck come back with some screenshots or lists of your settings
Re: Limiting download speed to my iPad.
Break your goals down into 2 parts.
1. Limit iPad speed to 400kbps
I would use a QoS rule. The simplest rule would be any traffic that has a destination IP of the iPad, would be put into a service class that has a maximum BW restriction on it.
2. Limit downloads+uploads to 200MB/day
I would solve this with a Quota, should be pretty straight forward.

So I go to QoC download, make a class:Lantis wrote:Break your goals down into 2 parts.

Service Class Name: ipad
Percent Bandwidth At Capacity:100%
No Bandwidth Minimum
Bandwidth Maximum 400 kbit/s
Optimize WAN utilization
Add new class, then go to QoC Download Classification Rules, put iPad's IP in Destination IP, Set Service Class to ipad and click "Add Rule".
That's it?
Re: Limiting download speed to my iPad.
Pretty well spot on, except your BW % at capacity.
My understanding is that setting controls who gets what when your connexion is getting completely saturated.
If that was the case no one would get any internet except iPads.
An easy number is 1% which wont cause any adverse effects
Also don't forget once you've done that, head on over to quotas and limit thr iPad to 200MB per day.

Re: Limiting download speed to my iPad.
OK, I did that and for the iPad it works fine but it also slows down everything else on my network. Steam download speed on my PC, for example, dropped to 400 Kb/s.

Re: Limiting download speed to my iPad.
You probably have the Default Class set to your iPad class.
Post some screenshots.
