Flashing From DD-WRT

Post by jbsix »

Hi,

My WRT54GL is currently running dd-wrt.

Is there a different procedure for flashing gargoyle from dd-wrt? Or can I just use these 'traditional' steps?

1. Restore Defaults, 30/30/30 Reset
2. Upload gargoyle bin
3. 30/30/30 Reset

Hi that should work but i dont think that 1.6.2 will run verry good on your 54gl as it will run slow because of the low RAM
and Flash memory. By all meens giv it a go but you mite want to use a older ver of Gargoyle. I dont no wich one tho.
PS I have never dun a 30-30-30 with Gargoyle it's just a ddwrt thing i think.

Not to burst your bubble but newest gargoyle will be sluggish on your router ...

Didn't get very far to see for myself I'm afraid.

Flashed the .bin as I did not see the .trx file so router is bricked.

Power LED flashing. Able to ping it eventually with reply but tftp connection is refused.

Any suggestions that don't involve jtag?

Correction it is NOT bricked. It just takes 15+ minutes to boot.

When you said sluggish I had no idea it would be this bad. I might as well be connecting to it from a 14.4k modem.

Any suggestions for a reasonably fast build?

Need the quota feature. And anyway i cant find a way to flash anything right now with the router so unresponsive. No tftp, no telnet, webgui fw uploads are perpetually uploading. Im running out of ideas...

finally managed to change the rom by flashing a ddwrt micro build with putty,

Even 1.4.7 becomes sluggish when wireless is switched on. Guess I was expecting too much from this puppy.

The website really needs to be updated to reflect this...
