Does Gargoyle 1.6 support TP-Link MR3020
Hi,
Is TP-Link MR-3020 supported by Gargolye? Has anyone succesfully tried it on and if so on what version of the router (v1-9)?
I ask since I couldn't find the router in the list of supported routers [1] but I can see a binary for it in the downloads page for 1.6 (gargoyle_1.6.0-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3020-v1-squashfs-factory.bin). The router comes with 4MB flash and 32MB ram and it is aimed to be used with a 3G modem plugged into its USB port yet the same supported_routers page indicates that 8MB of flash are required for the Gargoyle USB functionality.
The router is supported by OpenWRT AA [3]
Thanks,

Re: Does Gargoyle 1.6 support TP-Link MR3020
It would be great to get a reply especially as there seem to be issues with the latest MR3020 models (v1.8 and v1.9) in that once openwrt (and derivatives) are flashed on, the router cannot be reverted back to stock firmware.
In the meantime, I've started looking at ROOter firmware - it doesn't have the advanced QoS/monitoring capabilities of Gargoyle but it is aimed at supporting 3g modems out of the box.
Hope this helps,

From the OpenWrt wiki [1]
[1] http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-mr3020
I believe there were some posts on the Openwrt forums as well but I can't find it at the moment.WARNING: Don't use the newest firmware on an MR-3020 V1.8 (and maybe on other hardware revisions too) for restoring the original firmware! With the firmware file "mr3020nv1_en_3_15_2_up_boot(130326).bin" it will fail with the error message "Failed to erase block". Always use the recommended commands below.
Warning!WARNING: On V1.8 even if you succeed with firmware upload, after the router reboot the web interface will not work and you will not be able to return either to OpenWRT, nor to working original flash. What's even worse is, that the HW revision is only visible on the inside of the router - on the Ethernet port sticker, so you have to open the device up.

Re: Does Gargoyle 1.6 support TP-Link MR3020
well the first part is the usual problem with the "boot" firmwares, you have to trim the first 0x20200 bytes before flashing.
the second part seems just nonsense to me
one important thing is revert to the the very same tp-link firmware version that you had BEFORE flashing any other firmware, because sometimes there could be changes in uboot that prevent older/newer firmwares to run.
EDIT: i found the user who wrote that part of wiki (by checking old revisions),
https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=47093
no replies, no other posts to clarify, and he added that in wiki -.-
for what we know the problem could be as silly as wrong default ip, browser cache to be cleaned (what the hell means "the router seems to be working" ????)

That may very well be.
Nevertheless, it would be good to get an answer to the original question in this thread, namely using Gargoyle on a 4MB router (namely 3020).
Cheers!

I have used this router for both Gargoyle (various versions) and for OpenWRT and it works fine for me. It is small and runs nice and cool.
It is a standard 4MB machine, so there is not a whole lot of extra space for other plugins. I am not sure if the USB plugin would fit.

Re: Does Gargoyle 1.6 support TP-Link MR3020
I'm also interested in installing Gargoyle but I'm not clear from reading all this if the 3G modem functionality is preserved or not... the question of the USB working seems strange since openWRT supports USB and many things are done with the mr3020 on forums with the USB port.
@throughwalls - when you say a USB plugin, are you referring to the gargoyle interface or the OpenWRT underneath? I could live with setting up the 3G modem from a terminal if everything else was operational (esp. Quotas - the reason I'm thinking of using Gargoyle)
does anyone know what functionality is in the 1.6.2 image for the TL-MR3020?
