I recently installed Gargoyle (1.5.11) on my TP-LINK WDR3600 with no issues. Reason I got this router is that the ASUS N55U Modem/Router has horrible QoS which doesn't appear to actually work. So, I got the TP-LINK to do the QoS and router functions on our network.
I have everything set-up however I am not able to forward ports unless I forward them both on the tplink and the asus. I've tried adding the tplink to DMZ on the modem but that just causes the tplink to have no connection.
What I would like to be able to do is have the asus act purely as a modem and leave the router duty to the tplink.
Here are my connection settings:

What you suggest is actually the recommended configuration.
You need to figure out how to get your modem into bridge mode. This may or may not be possible depending on the make/model of the modem. When it is possible the exact procedure depends on the modem. So you need to research the subject yourself. If the modem was supplied to you by your ISP their technical support department should be able to help you. Otherwise Google is your friend. I saw many hits when I googled your modem so I think your chances are good.

Re: Using gargoyle for router duty attached to asus modem/ro
Hello, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately my ISP uses PPPoA for authentication so from what I have read, I cannot use the bridge mode on my asus modem/router
EDIT: Nevermind, I have been informed we can use PPPoE or PPPoA.
