Just new to the forum!
I have just purchased a 2nd hand netgear wndr3700ver1 that came with dd-wrt already installed and appears to be running normally.(Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/25/13) )
I want to install gargoyle particularly to control bandwidth usage of my kids.
I have tried to upgrade firmware via the ddwrt firmware upgrade page by directing it to the following files. I tried the gargoyle_1.5.10-ar71xx-generic-wndr3700-squashfs-factory img file, the gargoyle_1.5.10-ar71xx-generic-wndr3700-squashfs-sysupgrade bin file with out success. During the installation, a 300 second countdown timer starts but only counts down for about 5 second then a new window pops up saying flash is successful, and the router is rebooted, but always back to the ddwrt firmware. I also tried flashing the open wrt file: openwrt-ar71xx-wndr3700-squashfs-factory img with the same result,
Am I doing something wrong? I Need some help if anyone can oblige. Thanks
cannot load Gargoyle onto Netgear wndr3700ver1

Try the failsafe mode detailed on the Openwrt wiki here -
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/netgear/wnd ... lsafe.mode
This should also allow you to put the original firmware back as well.

I used the advice on the link you provided: I used a GUI TFTP process to successfully flash directly to the Gargoyle firmware. It was pretty simple. I used a simple TFTP client provided on the ddwrt website
