wireless issues with 1.4.7 on WRT54GL

Post by alienheartbeat »

Installed Gargoyle 1.4.7 yesterday - my first move away from stock firmware. Everything is fine except sometimes (twice so far) wireless connections cannot be made. Existing wirelss connections are ok and wired connections can be made.

I have noticed a few other posts about this,
(it seems to be related to the move to new drivers for the broadcom chips?)
but haven't seen in which vsn it has been corrected.

The following seem to temporarily fix it:
. disabling / re-enabling wireless
. changing the channel.
Haven't yet tried rebooting or changing the power, but from other posters I expect them to work.

It seems the most stable versions are 1.4.7 and 1.5.6.

Does anyone know in which vsn this problem was fixed?

I could just try 1.5.6 but am worried that if it doesn't work I will have to downgrade and will cause myself problems that I may not be able to solve (sure I can't do a tftp reflash - I can barely tie my shoes).

thanks for any help.

Anyone using 1.5.6 on WRT54GL?

Post by alienheartbeat »

1. confirm that just changing power level (eg from 20 -> 19) enables wireless login.

2. I have seen suggestions by DoesItMatter to use 1.3.9 but I don't really want to go backward.

for the moment i have split the network into 2 subnets with 2 wrt54gl's, wired connections using gargoyle 1.4.7, wireless using tomato. Not ideal.

Is anyone using 1.5.6 on the WRT54GL? Do the wireless login problems still occur on this?

Just flashed a WRT54GL with 1.4.7 and had the dropped routing issue, also occured on another WRT54G shortly beforehand. I ssh'ed into the 54G and could ping a website from the cli, so it's some issue with the system rather than the network beyoned...

I have now lowered the power to 19dBm so will see what difference this makes..

Am conducting trials with various WRT54Gx devices before deploying them..
