Linksys WRT610N Support?

Post by Gargoyle87 »

Does "Gargoyle" support Linksys WRT600N and Linksys WRT610N ???

If "Gargoyle" does not support them, is there any future plans to include the support of these routers ??? (because the WRT54GL is an aging router, and it is no more available in stores).

Gargoyle is OpenWRT based, so if the router is supported fully
by OpenWRT, it should be able to be supported by Gargoyle
as well. It looks like the WRT610N is still being worked on?

https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=16733&p=8

is a thread for development on it, but I don't see any updates?

http://oldwiki.openwrt.org/Hardware(2f)Linksys.html

Shows that WRT600N and WRT610N are still Works In Progress.

Not a linksys fan myself, so I don't use any of their routers.

Well.. right now what support there is for these routers is in the OpenWrt trunk, not the (stable) 8.09 branch Gargoyle is based on. I prefer to use the stable branch because major changes are constantly being introduced to the trunk, which can break things.

However, there's a good chance support for these will be back-ported in the near future, as they have back-ported support for other devices too. If not, at some point the OpenWrt trunk will fork into another new stable branch, at which point Gargoyle will migrate to the newer stable branch.

Do the latest version of Gargoyle support the Linksys WRT610N? Did anybody try flashing it?

Nope -- no ath9k support. There's an experimental ar71xx target in the 1.2 branch though if you still feel like trying to get something to work, and you don't mind compiling it yourself.

From what I have read on the OpenWRT forum, the main problem with the Linksys WRT610N support is the wireless chip support...

So I do not think that it will be hard to have a workable Gargoyle image for the Linksys WRT610N (without the wireless support). So users may use the Linksys WRT610N as a wired router (and they can connect Access Points to it).

Do you expect supporting WRT610N v1 now ?

OpenWrt support it with 2.4 kernel and DD-Wrt support it in 2.4 and 2.6 kernels, then it shouldn't be a problem now.
