WRT54GL can't upgrade

Post by kdobek »

I've upgrade to Gargoyle 1.5.8, but i dont like opportunities that gargoyle gave on with this hardware (WRT54GL v.1.1).

I tried to upgrade to DDWRT, source firmware, even to older version of Gargole (1.4.7). But ruter still have 1.5.8.

What I do wrong?
1) I tried to upgrade by GUI: DDWRT with dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin file, and with gargoyle_1.4.7-brcm47xx-squashfs.trx - nothing happen.

2) I tried to tftp (Windows 7) files above but i cant connect to ruter (with tftp and tftp2). I restarted ruter, put it in fail safe mode, changed nvram settings - still nothing.

3) I tried to download upgrade file with wget to tmp directory but my ruter hangs out while downloading.

After rebooting gargoyle GUI is running but version is still 1.5.8 :( All I want is to upgrade to DDWRT or source firmware.

Thank you for your response

It is correct that Gargoyle versions after 1.5.6 cannot run on the WRT54GL/G series. You must have at least 32MB of RAM to run Gargoyle now.

To recover your router you will need to use the boot loader recover mode and TFTP as shown here http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/dok ... e_recovery

You must use a 'bin' file for your GL and timing is everything. As soon as the router starts to respond to the ping have another window ready to start the TFTP. It will take several tries to get the timing correct. You can use the Gargoyle bin file for v1.4.7 or a Backfire bin file or a DD-WRT bin file or the stock factory bin file.

And use a switch between your router and your computer so that your link stays up to the computer. Windows takes to long to bring up the link otherwise and you will miss the window.
