Unable to login - TPLink 841ND v3

Post by phrunt »

I was a DD-WRT user and figured I would give Gargoyle a go to see what it was like so I flashed my DD-WRT back to stock firmware then installed Gargoyle, all went fine, I logged in, did some settings and then messed up my settings so went to do a factory reset using the button on my router, I didn't realize gargoyle doesn't support the factory reset but somehow it seems its half reset as now the router still has the new IP address I gave it but my password doesn't work, I've tried the password I set, Ive tried the default password of "password" and I've tried to SSH in and use just admin with no password and also with password and I've tried root with no password and root with password as the password, my router appears alive and well I just can't login without a Password. Any suggestions would be grealy appreciated, I now don't have wireless.

I've since spent hours trying to fix it, the router appears to be working fine, its dhcp server is working and everything, only problem is I can't login to it, it says my password is incorrect, maybe I did a typo putting it in there in the first place? no way to know... I just can't work out how to reset it to defaults, I've tried failsafe mode and it doesn't seem to work, I can't get it to go into fail safe mode. I've tried many times powering it on, waiting for the system light to light up and holding down the QSS button for 10-15 seconds then trying to ping 192.168.1.1 but it doesn't work, it stays on 192.168.0.2 which I had it set to with my settings. Is there a way I can flash the stock firmware back onto it without being able to login? both ssh and scp can both connect but require a password, I've tried root/password admin/password both don't work...

any help greatly appreciated.

nope, I never did get a solution, I had to write the router off. I don't trust Gargoyle anymore, seeing it doesn't support the reset button, a primary function of any router its pretty much useless. I much prefer DD-WRT

The reset button is turned into a "self destruct" button for your router, press it and say bye bye to your router forever.
