I have now swapped from my TP-Link TL-WR1043ND v1-1.8 to my ubnt RS pro and haven't had a drop out in 24 hours.
my next move is to install SWAP on my tp-link to see if that makes a difference?

Personally I would try to go for a Huawei device instead, if you do not get your ZTE to work.
