WNDR3700 & Billion 7800n Setup - Confused

Post by oconnor22 »

Hey Guys

I purchased a Netgear WNDR3700 last week so I could run Gargoyle in my house of 5 uni students. More questions in regards to proper allocation of QOS and Quotas will follow but to start with, I need to get it working in conjunction with my 7800n.

I have the Billion 7800n so I could play around with SNR settings to get the best sync I could get with the exchange. I realise I've most likely got it set up wrong at the moment because the WNDR3700 looses internet (network still in place) every 12 hours or so (forcing a restart).

I have it set up as a 'Gateway' - using PPPoE. I'm able to connect fine. Note: nothing has changed with the Billion, but I turned the wireless off.

Could someone please tell me the correct way to get these 2 devices to interact? I just want to use the Billion as a modem (but still be able to change the SNR) & use the Netgear to handle all the network traffic etc.

Can I set the Netgear up as a wired bridge perhaps? Or is it a case of making the Billion a bridge (but I think I'd loose my SNR abilities in that case...)? I've also noticed that the computers are only connecting to the Netgear with a maximum of 65 mbps - whereas previous to this, the Billion would be 150 - 300 around most areas of the house. Have I done something wrong here?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated - there seems like a lot of potential with this software I'm really looking forward to implementing it properly and bring some harmony back to the household.

Cheers, Chris.
