OpenWRT 23.05 - New Gargoyle?

Post by Statik »

Well, OpenWRT 23.05 is finally stable. Are we going to see a new version of Gargoyle in the new future? I love Gargoyle and I had to replace my router with one that isn't presently supported by Gargoyle but it is supported by 23.05 so I'm anxiously awaiting the new release so I can get back to Gargoyle!

Typically I use the Christmas break to try and tackle these major upgrades.
So stay tuned towards the new year :)

one quick question, if there will be a new gargoyle version, could it be possible to implement USB Tethering directly into the user interface without using the line commands?

iPhone tethering specifically was added as a plugin last time. I don't know if Android is enabled (i don't have one) but if someone wants to find out what the required packages are then it can be bundled into a plugin as well and we can probably include it with the new version.

yes i just saw that, but it only installs the necessary files on the router, you still have to go through all those command lines in telnet to be able to bring up the connection...
I was wondering if it could be implemented in the UI graphical interface, it would be nice if in the "Connections" menu we could find this USB tethering option beside the "Gateway" & "Wireless Bridge" option, so that the router automatically reconfigures itself once you plug in your phone to the usb port and select this "USB Tethering" connection

I use Android so maybe those Iphone files from that plugin are useless for me and still have to download other android specific files, that is no problem for downloading as i did that before, but once those needed files are already in the router, what bothers me is all that hassle you have to go through to bring up that connection through telnet and do that again everytime you recycle through other type of connections (AP, bridge...)

The GUI supports the iPhone, and i'm happy to reach the same/similar point with Android, IF, someone else does the work.
I'll support anyone in actually getting it done, but I don't physically have the stuff here to try it out, and I know that Santa isn't bringing me a new phone either

As for auto configuring when you plug one in, maybe. I'm less keen on that idea but it would be entirely possible.

Fair enough! that's what i call progress, when developers listen to the needs of end users ;)
I tested out the plugin after connecting phone and it seems to be working out of the box also with Android! encountered some small problems with DHCPv6 connection with older IPv4 devices but I managed to sort that out also by rendering the LAN connections through a switch...would it be a posibility to also add DHCPv4 as connection type or doesn't make sense?
Anyway, I'm happy that I sorted this out without needing to go through telnet commands again! I saved the configs for my different needs which I'm uploading every time i need to switch operating modes... thank u very much for the support!

Tried https://github.com/lantis1008/gargoyle/ ... enwrt_2305 today on a WRT32X (just had to patch the config to switch to libustream-mbedtls). It booted, basic networking was fine but WIFI remained broken. Known issue at this state of development?

Someone else reported the same. I haven’t had time to build mvebu and flash it myself to figure it out.
If you want to do any investigation on your end and give me a hint I’m all ears.
I’m tied up at the moment writing a replacement for openssl-utils. Hopefully finish that this week and then I’ll keep working on other parts.
