[SOLVED] Upgrade Gargoyle firm on DIR-300

Fist, sorry by my english, i know that it's bad... xD

I Like your firmware, it's easy to use, and have to many options that make of Gargoyle, a robust firm. Great Job!!!.


I have a DLINK DIR-300 Router, with Gargoyle Firmware ver. 1.3.4. I has not installed the Firmware, and, i haven't too much experience working with the routers firmwares. But i'm not so dummie, i has installed DD-WRT on a TP-Link Router.

Wherever... my question is: what image file, i have to download to upgrade my Gargoyle Firmware to the ver. 1.3.14???.

another question: can i make the upgrade from the web interface, or i need make it with fonFlash??

Left Panel -> Download

Under "Select your Download"

Choose: Firmware Images, Atheros 231X/5312, Branch 1.3 (experimental)

Then you can pick which firmware version you want.

You should be able to choose this file and upgrade from the GUI:

gargoyle_1.3.xx-atheros-combined.squashfs.img

I recommend going in steps... i.e.

1.3.4 -> 1.3.9 -> 1.3.14

You SHOULD NOT copy the 1.3.4 config to 1.3.14
You have to re-do your whole config from scratch.
There have been a lot of code changes and old configs can cause
very strange things to happen to different routers.

From memory I could not get any version higher than 1.3.9 to work on my DIR-300

I try to upgrade to 1.3.14 directly using a web interface, but, something wrong happend, the i lost energy of my house during the upgrade, so, i cant acces to the web interface any more...

later, i was googling, first, i say, my dir 300 is dead!! (birked), but i continue searching and find this tutorial TO INSTALL THE ORIGINAL FACTORY FIRMWARE:

Ok, but, i don't like this firmware, so, a try to the tuto to install gargoyle on the dir-300 that is in the documentation (install) section of this site, the steps to install DD-WRT, was ok, but the DD-WRT just boot from web the first time, when i reboot the DIR-300, i cant enter to tthe web interface any more (mabe i jave errors, remeber i'm noob in the theme)...

so, i try install gargoyle, using Fon Flash, and i can't.

searching again, i find a tutto (in this forum), to install gargoyle using telnet, (this tuto steps are like the 2 tutos that i mentioned before), and it works!!!!

then, i has my dir-300 working again, and have acces to the web interface, but, i install the firmware 1.3.14, and it have errors whith the dir-300.

ok, i was testing some firmware versions of gargoyle firmware, using gargoyle_1.3.xx-atheros-combined.squashfs.iso, and using the web interface upgrade tool of the firmware.

Tested versions, and results:

1.3.14, 1.3.13, 1.10 when u change the connection config and rebbot the DIR-300, the config settings set to default, then, don't save config settings.

1.3.15 The web interface don't boot, i had install a 1.3.4 firmware version from telnet.

1.3.4 (is the version of firmware that have my dir-300 when u got it), this firm works ok.

1.3.9 work ok too (i'm using this ver. now)

Mabe in the 1.3.10 - 1.3.15 versions, are the same problem, fixing one, all can work... xD

So, whit this tale, i confirm the information provided by DoesItMatter and ispyisail, i learned a lot too, and i hope that this information can help to another people, that have a DIR-300 and want use Gargoyle on it.
